I watched this clip this morning. It is a video of Mark Beeson of
Granger Community Church in Granger, Illinois. Made me think about my own communication.
What made me take interest is there are inspirational and positive words that I impart to people and at times the words just don't seem to stick. They just don't hear what I am saying. How do I say it differently so that they can hear what I am saying or even believe what I am saying? How do you get people to believe it?
Hmmmmm.
There's a lot going through my mind on the topic. I know that when you pastored here, you were the pastor I needed for that time in my life. I did hear you. In fact, I remember a lot of the things you taught me from the pulpit and Bible study. One of the most valuable things you taught me was to take notes. I do it to this day and I always remember what I'm told -- most of it.
I think it's true that you need to know who you're preaching to and how to speak to them... however, it's the Holy Spirit who makes them hear. No matter how good you preach, unless the Holy Spirit opens their ears, they will not hear.
Heavenly Father...
I pray on Ed's behalf, that utterance may be given to him in the opening of his mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which we are ambassadors, that in proclaiming it he may speak boldly, as he ought to speak. And Holy Spirit, I trust the rest to you, Lord, that you would open the ears of the hearers so that they might also become children of God, friends of Jesus and vessels of the truth and Your love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
God bless you, Ed!
